Vibrant new sculpture adorns Thrivent Corporate Center lobby
All eyes are on the vibrant sculpture recently installed in the Thrivent Minneapolis Corporate Center. It's titled Riding the Wave by Marela Zacarías, and it’s the latest addition to the Thrivent Art Collection.
This expressive sculpture may evoke flowing fabric, a direct influence from the artist’s global study of textile history and fabrics. To create the sculpture’s form, Zacarías shapes plaster over a wood and wire mesh frame. Then, the plaster is sanded down to a smooth surface before painting it with geometric forms and references to nature. The work invites curiosity and energy into the space with its colorful, elegant presence.
Zacarías is an accomplished sculptor and muralist whose works are featured in various locations across the country. She splits her time between New York and Mexico City.
